FM Talk Radio

The management of WORD/WYRD is set to announce that the AM talk radio stations will soon be simulcast on the FM frequency now occupied by 106.3 Charlie.
Sources at parent company Entercom Communications confirmed the change and said listeners of both stations will be told of the decision on Friday, June 13.
The adult hits 106.3 Charlie is a 25,000 watts FM station licensed in Simpsonville. WORD/WYRD operate at 950/1330 with two 5,000 watt towers in Greenville and Spartanburg.
In the last three years, 106.3 has undergone three format changes. Charlie was introduced last August after nine months of female oriented talk. Before that, the station had a Contemporary Christian/Country format.
Attempts to contact WORD program director Bob McClain about the change were unsuccessful (we kept getting his cheerful voice mail).

Begging for mercy

Begging for mercy

O Chatterers of High, have mercy on us, for we have been rudely lax in our commitment to this site.
Have mercy, for we have been plagued by unemployment, slavery, and the threat of foreclosure from our Mediachatter predecessor.
We beseech you to show mercy and forgiveness. Allow us to continue to use our creativity and smarts to entertain you with Metamucil regularity.
Hear the pleas of your humble servants. Wounded, but strong, we come to you on bended knee, ready to continue this journey.

Deadbeat dad?

We recently heard from Maureen Gobeil, the ex-wife of former SCETV broadcaster Andy Gobeil. As we reported in April, Gobeil walked out the ETV door with no where to go. Here’s what Maureen had to say about the situation.

Just wanted to let you know that not only has Andy lost his job but he has let insurance lapse on his two sons which he is supposed to cover. I found this out when I went to the pharmacy and they told me that the insurance card was declined. His wonderful response was "fuck you." This is from a man that has not had his children over night since December 31st and we have been separated and divorced for over 3 years and he has only had the boys for one Thursday night when he is supposed to have them every other Thursday and for only a handful of weekends. He tries to get people to believe that I do not allow him to get the boys but as a single mother I can assure you I would welcome the break. Now I will not allow him to have the boys over night when he was living in his car or at ETV or when he did not have car insurance or a registered car for over a year. I also need to make sure they are morally being taken care for so no overnights at a girlfriend’s house. Supposedly he has an apartment but still chooses not to see his 10 year old and 6 year old sons. Andy is a pompous phony that wants everyone to see "Andrew Gobeil". Pretty sad that he lost his $50,000 a year job. To think he gave up a six figure income to "be closer to his son’s" that he does not see.
                                                                                                                       Regards,
                                                                                                            Maureen Gobeil

The State returns

Last year, when gas prices hit $3 a gallon (the good old days), most regional newspapers pulled their racks out of the Upstate, including The State and Atlanta Journal-Constitution. After a little arm twisting, The State’s Sunday edition is back on the rack at the News & More News Stand, 3010 East North Street in Greenville. This is the only location where the Sunday State is available. News & More people said they will add the Saturday edition in August and possibly all weekday editions during football season.  6-9-08

Emmy reminder

The 2008 Southeast Regional Emmy Awards will be presented on Saturday, June 21 in Atlanta. These are the Upstate nominees. Please note our editorial content splattered through the listings.  6-9-08
